What does osteoporosis mean?
The bone is an active organ and is influenced by many other organs and metabolic processes, so that with every bone disease a comprehensive assessment is necessary.
Osteoporosis is one of the most common bone diseases and is associated with a reduction in bone density and a deterioration in bone architecture. Timely diagnosis is therefore important in order to avoid bone fractures. The most important and best established method of bone density measurement is DXA osteodensitometry.
If osteoporosis is diagnosed, it is important to look for other diseases and factors that have a negative effect on bone metabolism, such as hyperfunction of the parathyroid glandskidney disease or medication. The treatment of osteoporosis is planned and carried out individually for each patient.
In addition to osteoporosis, other bone diseases can also occur, such as Paget's disease (a very strongly increased bone remodeling) or the osteomalacia (caused by a vitamin D deficiency).
