At our Center for Endocrine Medicine Hamburg, experienced specialists diagnose and treat thyroid diseases.
What is thyroid disease?
Excessively high thyroid hormone levels lead to accelerated bodily functions. In contrast: too low thyroid hormone levels have the effect of slowing down bodily functions.
In principle, nodules can form in the thyroid gland, which is quite common. In most cases, these are benign nodules. However, even benign nodules can impair health through strong growth if they escape the normal control of the pituitary gland, i.e. become "autonomous".
Autoimmune diseases sometimes have an effect on the thyroid gland; hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can occur as a result. Problems with the hypothalamus or pituitary gland can also affect the thyroid gland.
